Hi,Probably some problem at input of tube (control grid).
A small "ripple" on input of a ECC88 will make a five times higher current flow change that in a 6CG7 ("raw" 12.5mA/V compared to 2.6mA/V)
(If it hadn't been CF you would have had another problem if you use them as "direct repacements")Check out the wireing to the control grid.
