Some SS gear needs to protect the speakers from start up transients. I suspect Manny's Denon is similar to a Sansui 7070 I owned, in the past. A timed delay allowed things to "settle down", before the speakers were energized. Remember, these are OTL setups.

Under no circumstances should anyone wire across a protection relay in a solid state amp. The relay does usually eliminate pops at turnon/turnoff, but a more significant function is to de-energize if the protection circuit senses a DC offset at either output channel. That protects the speaker if a power amp channel fails and also hopefully prevents the amplifier from catching on fire.
