In Reply to: RE: How much current does a -bias voltage need for 6550 tubes posted by Lee of Omaha on July 19, 2016 at 08:40:07
"Normally there's no current drawn, and chokes are all about opposing changes in current. "
The first filter capacitor following the bias rectifier will create current changes as it charges and discharges at the ripple frequency. Inserting an appropriately sized choke ahead of that cap will reduce ripple.

of roughly, 20 to 100 henries, from 40 to 10 milliamps rating up to 400volts. At first i thought not much current being used in the bias supply and i was just going to plug in the 100H x 10ma but thought there might be other aspects to consider. Hence, i felt the need to get other opinions on the matter. thanks for the help, Dak
The risk in combining chokes and caps in a light-duty bias circuit is susceptibility to ringing. A larger choke will tend to minimize the amplitude of the swing, but a smaller choke will cause the voltage to settle more quickly. This can be simulated pretty easily in SPICE.
