The noise the Schottky eliminates is the switching noise when the voltage crosses over the zero point. Used for cathode bias, the diode does not switch, you are just using the forward drop.

Then what's all the rave about a sic shottky in this cathode bias application if they never switch? JH
I went from a red LED to a pair of Schottkys in series, and my very unscientific impression is that maybe I liked the LED better. I need to switch back to the LED and have another listen. This is in a phono stage. The difference, if any, could merely be due to the fact that the LED set the bias at a slightly different voltage from what I see with two Shottkys.
Lew - I have experimented using LED's for biasing preamp tubes. I found that for some reason, Orange, Clear lens LED's sounded better than red, blue, white. I did make sure that each LED biased the tube the same, some by adding a diode in series. - Pete
