I would have to agree with that designer. I've encountered a number of problems with PIO caps, from leakage to outright shorts. This has happened with unbranded, Russian, and Jensen caps.
I also don't like the coloration they impart to the sound either.

Thanks for the reply Black Dog. I think I'll stick with the tin foil suggestions and go from there if I don't like them. Don't need worries or problems. These, or some of these seem to be the way to go in the mid price range for musicality, sweetness... Tweaker
I have found just the opposite for the PIO caps that have glass ends or "hermetically sealed". These are very high quality made usually to mil specs. The ones that are in metal tubes, almost always brass, I found to be excellent performers. I once bought some for a really good price, some .1 x 1000vdc Sprague VitQ that looked like they were recovered from a landfill. I bought 20 of them and they all tested within 5% of specs. Some had no leads. I soldered new leads on and installed them in an EICO ST40 and they sound awesome. The points is, you gotta know which ones to use. cheers, Dak
The SCR (France) manufactured polypropylene film and tin foil caps. sold under the Solen and other brands ARE a good value.

He'll tell you shortly the answer, just wait.
Agreed. The only problem that I have heard is that they take a long time to fully break in, so impatient people never get to hear them at their best ... :^)
