You recommended carbon comp. What do you think about Shinkoh Tantalums instead?

Tantalum resistors are not the best choice for this application.
Spending a lot of money on a resistor can actually make your build worse than using the 10 cent part that you should've in the first place.

Do you know for certain that the resistive material isn't laid down as a spiral around the body? You might have to cut one open or scrape off the coating to see. FWIW, I've cut open quite a few resistors that didn't pass this test. That includes resistors sold as carbon comp. Ohmite or someone apparently made resistors for some period of time that were a carbon film spiral, but they looked exactly like carbon comps, and that's how they were sold. Those resistors play havoc in RF amplifiers and applications where minimum inductance is needed. Nowadays, you always have to sacrifice a resistor in order to check for this.
