The transformer, x-73, has only two secondary taps: ground and hot
The S-144 has 16 and 8 ohm taps with a separate series winding to ground, which you split and reconfigure if you want a 4 ohm tap. Originally I thought they were splitting the ground between the 4 and 8 ohm taps, but this is a different set up completely, shorting the top of the second secondary to both the leads of the top secondary. Weird......
