That's what I suspected. I have one set of large Ampex outputs and the windings are, uhhhh...., definitely not familiar. In fact I am still puzzling out the various output taps.... Again been searching but to no avail.
Reputation as rated the Ampex iron as being very good, on par with the Peerless or even better, but trying to source information is like pulling Hen's teeth. Info is very, very hard to come by.
The Ampex amp with the replacement transformer has an S-144 but again little information can be gleaned from the Triad catalogs I have found.

I totally agree with you those amps are at best industrial in appearance. And they sound awful too. Wink wink..... nudge nudge.
Actually to be honest I done some powder coating on several old amps which came out beautifully. Don't know if I want to do that all over again.
