The A3-500 300B Stereo Amplifier use a 6A3 in a 300B socket.
In the Electra-Fidelity website say: " The amp is supplied with Sovtek 6A3 tubes that is the exact specification and plate size as an original 300B, but using the smaller 6A3 bottle. "
Is this true ?
I can run a Sovtek 6A3 with 36W plate dissipation as the original Western Electric 300B ?

Thanks

From memory with JC as the source... While the plate is indeed good for 40W of dissipation, the cathode stops increasing emission at around 26W and he recommended 20-22W as the maximum dissipation for the tube. This is going back nearly 20 years to when the 2A3 was introduced. I have no idea how the current batch of tubes compare.

My memory from the same time period is that the Sovtek 6B4 and 2A3 plates were slightly smaller - about 1/4" shorter - compared to the Sovtek 300B.
The notion of running a 6.3v tube with a 5v supply also bothers me. I don't think Jack is that dumb, so there must be something else going on that is not revealed in the available information.
In the thread linked below JC makes it clear that the tube is not a 300b and should not be treated as one.

I recall the same; I run mine (6B4G's) at about 20, no issues, surprisingly long life. But all of my tubes are dated 1999-2001 IIRC. Not sure about newer stock.
I did have one tube develop an I intermitant short soon after installation , but I don't think it was related to operating point
The Sovtek 6a3 data sheet lists the plate dissipation as 15 watts.
