Bouncy ball got me thinking about the modular psu I was going to build several years back but didn't. I think I want to try again. I would also make a modular driver unit and a modular opts unit. They would be set up for either SE or PP amps.
From Bounce's post (in power supply vs sound thread) I get the idea that a regulated voltage supply is needed so the B+ can be adjustable, but I have never worked with regulated supplies before. Going to start researching them, but if anyone has any schems for a good one (max B+ about 450 to 500 vdc) they are willing to share that would be great.

I am not sure what is going on as I am able to receive attachments from others. I have another plan now, so lets just let it go for the time being. Thanks for trying!
I'd look at going out and buying an old stock one. I have one sitting in my lab that will do up to 600V at a couple hundred ma, and it even has an adjustable bias supply as well.
Sometimes the better sounding regulated supplies will really need to be designed around the amplifier circuit you plan to use.
Just an option, you could build an unregulated supply and use a variac ahead of it. If you build the variac into the PS case, you could also bring the AC output to a socket on the front panel as a source of variable AC. A switch could be installed on the panel for AC to the PS. Just something to think about, might be easier than building a regulated supply from scratch, especially if you want high current/voltage capability for testing large amps.

Sounds like a good idea, and a lot easier too. Thanks.
Listening to an amplifier though a variac, on a well-thought-out high quality hi fi system, will be an added sonic compromise.
No free lunch, sorry but 'tis true !!

Just build a conventional choke loaded supply and run it from a VARIAC
