Michael, I've SPICED this exact scenario, and although I don't usually install less than 1.5-2Hy, the little choke can be a lot more effective than you would think. It's an excellent alternative to the series resistor that's sometimes used to allow the caps to filter more effectively.

That is exactly what Doc said.He doesn't like Vacuum tube rectifiers as he said they are lossy.I kind of like damper tubes but I have to admit that the Schottkys that Eli turned me on to are tough to beat and very quiet.
