Dynaco in the ST70 also used a little choke instead of a resistor.
Doc is putting a choke in place of a resistor of an existing filter. This is not what Jeff and Dennis are doing with the same little choke.

Correct you are sir. We almost always use L1/C1/L2/C2, and don't give a RIP about L1 being "critical", just use it to strip off some RF, and avoid any sorta "C " input filter, even a small uF "c". Thanks and regards.Jeff Medwin

I'm aware of that but I was making the point that these chokes are what they always recommend..I still have my doubts about its capability but we will see after some actual measurements.

Michael, I've SPICED this exact scenario, and although I don't usually install less than 1.5-2Hy, the little choke can be a lot more effective than you would think. It's an excellent alternative to the series resistor that's sometimes used to allow the caps to filter more effectively.

That is exactly what Doc said.He doesn't like Vacuum tube rectifiers as he said they are lossy.I kind of like damper tubes but I have to admit that the Schottkys that Eli turned me on to are tough to beat and very quiet.

That's what we would want.
