I'm getting ahead of myself and didn't read the data sheet, I was thinking 28watt was the point of A2. Didn't Cary get 50wpc out of this tube in the 805?
Edit: Must of been late...
I ran the sim again and this is what I got. I also calculated it on peak voltage, not RMS so my figures were way off. As you can see, its distorting as you suspected.Basically Im getting about 10 watts just before its starts distorting.

Yes, the claim was made. No, the laws of physics were not changed to permit it.
Your hook-up of the EL34 is odd. You have both a 10K plate load resistor and an interstage as a load. to the EL34 There is no blocking cap between the plate and the interstage so current is going through both paths. Did you physically built it this way it or is it a sim issue?
It's only a sim issue, have not built anything yet
Just throwing out some ideas right now before I source some parts
Distortion and other characteristics of the 805 are considerably degraded compared to an optimally designed A2 amplifier. Whether this is due to component values necessary in order to extract 50W, or the need to compromise in order to accommodate both the 211 and 845 (switchable), is anyone's guess.
After bench testing this amplifier, Stereophile referred to its measured performance as "mediocre, at best, even for a tube amplifier," and "not acceptable in a high-fidelity device." Based on the published results of their review, I agree.
