In Reply to: RE: Will UTC S-15 Trannys work for pp 1626 tubes? posted by amnesiac on October 31, 2014 at 06:47:48
would pp 6ah4 give me at or under 2 watts? Thanks, BC

New production tubes aren't bad and lots of good old ones. Love the way mine sounds. Easy to drive too!
Maybe also look into using the ECC99 dual triode. More linear and more suited for push-pull.
IIRC, #10 DHTs will do what you want.

pp 10 makes 2 watts or less? I have my doubts.
Check the linked # 10 data sheet out. Notice 1 set of Class "A" operating conditions that yield 900 mW. of "undistorted" power O/P. A PP pair of tubes under those conditions is EXACTLY what you asked for.

thanks for that. I would like to stick with the el cheapo tubes though. 1626 are 5 bucks each NIB where I buy and 10 st are 50 each NIB.

At this power level, it's practical to develop all the required voltage swing at the driver. That would allow using the 1626s in CF configuration in order to minimize linearity issues. The same OPTs will work for CF and common cathode, so it's easy to try it both ways.

transformers could handle parallel single ended if needed. They are rated up to 12 watts so I assume they can handle the extra current from pse.
