Which Stax ESL speakers do you have? The best bet I have found with ESL speakers is a wide bandwidth amp with low distortion..That would be an HK citation 2 or several MAC amps like an Mc60, Mc75,or Mc275..I also found the Fisher 55a mono amps which have an interstage is very good as well.

The laminations will vibrate with the music for two reasons - electromagnetic forces generated by the winding currents, and magnetostriction which is an actual change in the dimension of the lamination. Careful manufacture, tight bolts, and soft mounting are the usual prescription.
and then vacuum pot the transformer - now it will be really quiet.....
Yeah, vacuum impregnating the windings is one part of "careful manufacture".
Hello Michael,The stax in question are headphones... I should have been more clear.
Nice article you posted though. Thanks for this! The closest thing i have to ESLs are Maggies. I believe that the "quasi-ribbon" technology of the Magneplanars have the potential to sound as good if not better than ESLs - Especially in the bass dept. For one they don't need a sub for this... But i didn't have a chance to compare directly.
