Thanks for the note. I had too many amplifiers, so I ended up giving the original 50W version away to the son of my former boss/mentor/best man to use at college. He hooked his iPod up to it and apparently it's working really well for him...
I switched to my build of the "AAK" parallel-output, 100W SymAsym for a while, but I took pity on my friend, Bryan, and lent it to him in exchange for borrowing back the 6V6 monoblocks I built and sold to him a while back.
So that's the way it stands now, LOL. I never tried tweaking the solid-state amps because it's a nuisance, and, well, you can't improve on perfection...
BTW, I've been very busy this year restoring my BMW.
Unfortunately, it's down awaiting repairs right now because the exhaust valve seat in one of the heads I had rebuilt fell out after 300 miles, darn it. :-(

Follow Ups:
I had a 1960 R27 that I found in a garage, got it running, then all the BMW nuts chased me around until I sold it to one of them. Later, the same guy offered me a 1960 (again) R60, freshly removed from it's factory sidecar, that he wanted for his R69S. It had never hit the ground, for obvious reasons, it was better, but I sold it to a friend who still has it rotting in a barn. During my travels in France doing bicycle business (for 20 years)
I stumbled on a large NOS stash of /2 parts, that took half a container to bring home...did good on that pile.
Back to audio, I wanted to make a SS amp for LF duty only, thought maybe
what you had made was worth trying. The link is still up for the amp, is this valid? : http://www.lf-pro.net/mbittner/Sym5_Webpage/symasym5_3.html
It doesn't discuss "damping factor", is it "well" damped ? suitable for 26-200hz? Any build/parts choice advise? thanks in advance
I'm speechless. Beautiful!
It's a very nice amplifier. You know, solid-state amps don't have as much "character" as tube amps. I thought the 100W version was a bit more open and had a bit more bass solidity than the 50W version with the single pair of outputs. But I'm sure you would do very well using it as a bass amp, as long as you're not trying to drive inefficient speakers to very high SPLs.I was teaching myself to make PC boards using the toner transfer method and made up several sets of the original Bittner boards. I'd be happy to mail you a pair, drilled and ready to go.
If you want more power, there is a nice project called the "Honey Badger" described on DiyAudio. They sell beautiful gold-plated boards on their store. They also sell a universal solid-state power supply board that ought to go well with either amp design.
Send me an emal if you want to try the boards, or want to discuss the project in more detail.
Oh, yeah... Nice bike!
