I saw a choke recently and on the case the specs were listed at 400 madc 800 CPS.What's the 800 CPS rating all about? Is this suitable for PS use in a typical amp?
Thanks . . . Charlie

Not suitable at as the magnetic core will saturate at 120Hz input with regard to the specified ratings. Fortunately standard frequency chokes are inexpensive.
I won't bother with it.

Does edcor make big choke input chokes. I didn't see any mention in there catalogue.
The core will saturate much more easily at 60 Hz, so it will need to be derated for current. How much, exactly, might have to be determined empirically. More trouble than I would want to go through considering the relatively low cost of 60 Hz chokes.

Sounds like it was for some sort of Navy circuit is my best guess. AC power on navy ships is 400hz, full wave rectify it and that's 800hz for your ripple.
Not sure if suitable for 60hz use or not, if so probably at a reduced current. I suck at the math related to inductors.
