It has been said that the original 50 had a poor vacuum by modern standards, that being the reason it has such a low maximum grid resistance, and possibly the reason it has a "different" sound. If true, that would also contribute to a shorter lifetime for old stock.
As always, Jac's data sheets are worth reading, especially the notes.
It is my understanding production was stopped recently of Shuggie type 50. It has a reputation for unreliability.
Full Music / TJ produce/d a version, which is available via Sophia and probably others. They would be my second choice.
Emission Labs now produce a version that is reportedly excellent, possibly bettering the best of the NOS and would likely last longer as well. It will cost you, but would be my first choice.
