"" I do NOT really want to try this is a Placetto passive volume control. Alleged to be used just for this purpose????? But for a grand!!!! I'm not a gamblin-man.""
No gamble 30 day trial. Money back if not happy. If people didn't like them they'd be all over Audiogon. They rarely come up.

are they using this as a source balance????
That would be it's purpose. To add a volume control option to a vintage piece.
Like I already posted, I use a Marantz NA7004 network player. I like the DAC unit it has, but no onboard remote or other volume control.
And the major problem is I listen to, or between four stations with WIDE variation in their broadcast volumes.

I don't understand your comment. The RVC is a passive volume control. You can put it after the source and before the pre or power amp if you want.
I don't think I'd spend the money just to control the volume of four Internet radio stations but it will work and has 127 volume positions.

I have to come up with something cheaper!
I may look into a smart phone that can patch out a digital signal to my DAC????
