Check to see if your network player has an "auto level" setting, it probably does. If not, get a better network player or stream through your computer to a Roku or Apple TV.
Don't bugger up an old amp in lieu of a software solution.
Remember in the old days we had to get up, pull out a record, take it out and put it on the turntable, rub the dust off it, turn down the volume, put the needle on the record all for a glorious 18 minuted of sound before we had to jump up and change sides, and we loved it.

I'm using a pretty good streamer, the Marantz NA-7004.
I'll look into the Roku for audio level. And see if I can feed the digital into the marantz's DAC
