Hi all
I am going to go through my 222C and I had a question about the HH Scott site/forums.
Does anyone know if the old site, Vacuum Tube Valley I suppose, is going to come back,or has come back under another domain?
I am sure there is plenty of support here, but it would be nice to read through old threads if they have not vaporized into the ether universe.
Thanks
Jeff

Thanks TYU
Yes, I have seen that, and the HH Scott forum link where the domain may be for sale.
My 222C is bone stock, and very nearly a "White Glove" special. The original owner never allowed his kids to touch it. I bought it from a co-worker who bought it from the son. No rubs around knobs on the face plate etc. Full complement of Telefunken tubes, and a Mullard 5AR4.
I put it on craigslist, but I am going to pull the ad when as I have almost completed my parts order.
Selenium coming out, building all new multi-section caps. Power supply resistors will be replaced etc.
I am going to stay with the original cap values, all will be PIO/Teflon except the 10 - .1uf. I am considering a mix of Gen I & Gen II Sonicaps there.
Jeff
keep the stock parts!............
As i was saying no matter what cupling caps i put in the 299c......nothing to me sounded as good as the stock caps...
I have a hhscott 355 preamp tuner....an i have put new caps on the 12AU7 outputs....i tryed other cuplingcaps in the inputs driver-tone setup but went back to the stock caps....an as for the PS B+ caps ....i use a Varic on all my tube amps...most of the old PS caps are ok.. as long as the input ac is at dropet to about 110....i just like the stock sound so much...it is as sweetest a sound as i have found in my 50years of owening tubes
Yes my 299c was like new.. same stock tube like yours.....but i had a 299 that was ruff EL84 outputs but still had great sound....
One of the bigest thing that blows my mind.... i have 3-4 hhscott peaces an not one pot made any noise?
one guy thinks the tecks new some thing in the 50-60s we have lost to day.
all this is just one mans o-pine.....have fun with your hhscott
I know the multi sections have to be going south. No performance issues on the amp, but I have taken a multi section apart before and seen the asphalt inside. So even though they are cool to the touch, I just can't trust 50 year old electrolytic caps. I have done the rebuild inside mod on a Sherwood tuner. Those old caps get funky inside towards the top, and it was creeping down one side.
I have not ordered my .1uf yet, so when the ,022, .0018, .25, & .047 show up, I will pull a lead and test them.
It is likely they are drying out, not hermetically sealed.
I am going to try for that original sound though, I have not settled on any particular .1uf for certain.
Thanks
Jeff
Here the thing on the PS caps replasment alone....all your B+ well rise, eze 10-15v....so the sound well chang....i would never run these 50years amps that were setup for 110ac ...here 123ac coming in from my wall then add 15 more v on top of that..........
It well work....an you may feel safe but..... it well not sound like the hhscott.... these are the ONLy ones i ever see for sale....are the ones that have be re-capet... an upgreaded....an thay say it well last for 50more years....hehe..
But it dose not sound close to stock...that why there saleing them..
The only way i know this....i have done what you are.... make it better....it just makes it diff....
But life is funny we all do the same thing... but you cant save anyone ....we all have to... go are we dont know......only resion i am saying anything about this is there just not a lot of the 222....299 hhscott all stock laying around...
An when i sale a tube amp... thay get a varic...i just pic them up when i see them i have 8 here now an paid from $5.-15. at most..old amp savers
good luck
