Thank you very much for your kind comments and suggestions Jeff.
I would have loved to have known Mr. Fulton! it is only in the last year or so that I have begun to learn a little about this remarkable man.
I have several of his LP recordings; mostly the organ stuff.
I even tracked down an HK430 receiver to power the FMI80's, as apparently they were recommended by Mr Fulton. I sold the HK. It was nice, but was bested by other gear that I had on hand.
I am making new enclosures for the FMI80's, as mine are quite homely. The dimensions are exactly the same, though I have done away with the recessed front baffle, and will have it flush with rounded edges. I have found that a layer of felt on the baffle benefits the sound in my room.
I also bought, broke in, and installed a pair of those huge, Russian, paper in oil, KBG capacitors. I say installed, but really, they are sitting on a shelf, outboard of the speaker enclosures. They are as big as Spam cans!
I struggled with the decision to place the input jacks up close to the driver tubes. I am aware of the practical advantage to this, but I couldn't get over how ugly it looks. So, I used good, shielded wire for my long leads and hoped for the best. Ha!
I also have a hard time leaving wiring loose and unkempt, and couldn't resist placing three wire ties in there. I did place them in uneven spacing though....you got to give me credit there right?!
I tried to keep the signal and power leads in separate bundles, though I did allow one lead from a capacitor to sneak in there for 1/3 of it's run.
I thought for such long runs, motoring of the wires would be and issue, hence part of my reason for securing them.
Anyway, I just cut the ties.....Thanks again.
Pierre

Hello,
What you need to know is HK 430s came out in what, the late 1970s', and they are now 35 years old. What you find floating around will likely not perform like the piece did when it was new. We have to buy several 430s, listen to all of them, and pick the best one of several. Then, it maybe gets a well thought out re-do, touch up.
The HK 430 you bought may be one someone didn't want any more !! :-)
If you live anywheres near Chicago, I perhaps can let you hear all the Fulton stuff totally optimized. I am helping record the Elmhurst College Spring Band Concert, dress rehersal Saturday, and Concert Monday night, about 5-12-14, and my recording engineer friend has ALL of Robert's stuff, his tape recorders, microphones, etc, and all of RWF's speakers. Might be able to get you a preview. Would need to check.

You have now graduated to the big time and I love your selection of components.
Honest amplification is better than excessive 2nd order distortion anytime.
It was a really nice rebuild. The CNC work was cool.
