I say Eli has a great PP design. 6AQ5 (12AQ5) is hard to beat in a cathode based tube & costs only a few dollars each. And, no doubt the Z565 is a great audio transformer.
A more difficult design would be PP 2A3 or 6A3/6B4G with that Z565 due to the direct filament tube type & higher voltage driver requirements. One mistake in design or less than best quality components and the Eli design would likely sound better.

FWIW, Ned Carlson has a setup that allows a Dyna ST70 to alternately employ EL34 class tubes and (specifically) the Sovtek 6B4G. NOS 6B4s can't stand up to the conditions present. The Sovtek 6B4 shares its anode stamping with the Sovtek 300B. Naturally, it can tolerate abuse NOS can't.

Is Ned Carlson the "Uncle Ned" at Triode?
JC Morrison said,
"the sovtek 2A3 materials (the plate we use in the 300B) make it a little sturdier in terms of heat but thats it. this means that you can raise the plate voltage and current a bit without overheating the cathode (big problem when you do that because you change the transfer characteristic), but you want to be aware that the cathode is only capable of so much emission in the first place. certainly *NOT* 40 watts worth."
