I have always found Mr. Moray's approach interesting. The thought of harvesting energy from the "Ether" seems to cross both the physical and metaphysical worlds. His devices looked like vacuum tube devices with doped plates.

I believe that Tesla was also trying to tap into this energy with his high potential, high frequency devices. You have to let the established laws fall by the side and take a leap of faith that guys like Moray and Tesla were standing on the shoulders of giants in that they were taking things a step farther while established laws were limited in scope.
Who's to say that Physics and spirituality will not meet in the middle some day...
That's my take

Here's some help for the guys still going "huh?" to your statement. You are correct. I have seen some original results from Maxwell's original paper and it was vastly too complex to use to make chalkboard solutions to almost anything. It had to be simplified, but not too simple.
However, the simplified theory contains the equations borrowed by Einstein for his "simplified" General Theory of Relativity:
Albert Einstein wrote (Wikipedia on Maxwell's Equations):
"The precise formulation of the time-space laws was the work of Maxwell. Imagine his feelings when the differential equations he had formulated proved to him that electromagnetic fields spread in the form of polarised waves, and at the speed of light! To few men in the world has such an experience been vouchsafed ... it took physicists some decades to grasp the full significance of Maxwell's discovery, so bold was the leap that his genius forced upon the conceptions of his fellow-workers"
—(Science, May 24, 1940)
It had to simple as possible as Einstein always knew, understanding the model limitations, such as the need for free space and not other variable "contaminations" such as atmosphere. As Tesla would understand, he put the atmosphere back in there. But you can't assume a homogeneous atmosphere as there is none on this planet.
Simple is essential in 1940 in order to make progress, The simplest problems are not surmountable with a full Maxwell cause/effect equations all in use. With today's supercomputers, there can be more added measurable variables to include for a more complete model and hence solve for more complex problems.
You will note, for example, that linearity is always assumed in the media electromagnetic waves propagate. That is only 100% true in the vacuum of space.
I wouldn't blame Heaviside, et. al., except not to fully disclose in his published articles what assumptions and limitations he added, if that is really what he did. But it was the PUBLISHERS demanding it simplified from the mathematicians, in order for a theory to be useful in their day and age of hand calculations.
From the link: So anyone seriously interested in potential systems that accept and use additional EM energy from the vacuum, must first violate the Lorentz symmetry condition, else all his efforts are doomed to failure a priori.
We point out that quaternion algebra has a higher group symmetry than either vector algebra or tensor algebra, and hence it reveals much more EM phenomenology and dynamics than does EM in vector or tensor form.
Today, the tremendously crippled Maxwell-Heaviside equations --- symmetrized by Lorentz --- are taught in all our universities in the electrical engineering (EE) department. Note that the EE professors still dutifully symmetrize the equations, following Lorentz, and thus they continue to arbitrarily discard all asymmetrical Maxwellian systems. Hence none of them has the foggiest notion of how to go about developing an "energy from the vacuum" system, which is asymmetrical a priori.
The resulting classical electromagnetics and electrical engineering (CEM/EE) model taught in all our university EE departments also contains very serious falsities. Most of modern physics, such as special and general relativity, quantum field theory, etc., has been developed since the 1880s and 1890s fixating of the symmetrized Maxwell-Heaviside equations. A paper gathering together a listing these serious flaws and giving proper citations, is T. E. Bearden, "Errors and Omissions in the CEM/EE Model," available for free downloading at:

The Michaelson/Morely experiment showed that there is no "æther"! Their effort may be the most significant negative result in all experimental science.

On the sub subatomic level we are in a sea of activity. This is where the pay dirt will ultimately be found. It's just a matter of time.
