I ordered a couple of 0D3s and
sockets from Triode Electronics.
Tubes seem to be fine.
The sockets are garbage.
First they don't match -1 cup & 1 fork.
Neither will accept the tube in them
without either damaging the tube or
playing around with the contacts.
Then the brackets are paper thin metal.
They were supposed to be gold
but they are silver.
All around not worth anything.

I don't have an issue with Chinese sockets , the B9A sockets sometimes tend to loosely hold the valve in place though . Usually Chinese gold plated sockets are supplied with a gold plated bracket so maybe the supplier has the brackets mixed up with the standard type . Admittedly I do prefer cup to fork contact , although fork contacts can be adjusted with a scriber if they become loose . Have you tried the sockets with different octal valves ? I have some Tungsol 7236 which are very tight , some base spigots do seem to be slightly larger than others
You should really take up your issue with the supplier

I only use those for octal rectifiers...and I've have decent luck with using them for that, ...but my signal tubes usually get teflon CMC's...some people don't like them (the CMC's) but they grab the pins better than anything...and the UX4's are great!
I have the teflon CMC's in my Octal Cornet signal tubes
but I was going to try these on my 0D3s in my PS.
I will just get generic gold ceramic sockets from PCX.

I know people think that eBay is a huge ripoff, but I bought 11 of these for $37 ($3.63 ea.) including shipping.
They are obviously not made in China.
These are the real deal...I am lucky to have a bunch of them too. Tapped mounting holes, no nuts needed, grounding tabs, ahhhh...
"I KNOW you can hear it, but are you REALLY listening?"
This is exactly why I won't use Chinese products in any serious endeavor. That's not to say you got what you paid for; apparently, your sockets don't even look like the picture. TE will probably make it right if you contact them. If they don't, please let the rest of us know.

I won't even bother I just will not
ever shop there again PERIOD
Gold plated crap is still crap.

Did Ned sell the business several years ago? From his eBay listings, he seems to be in England now.
For years (about 15 to 25 years ago) Ned received all my business for tubes and parts and was my primary source for tube lore. He was generally in the mood to chat and taught me a great deal about tube circuits and different tubes to try. He encouraged me to abandon the 12AU7/12AX7 mindset decades ago and get beyond the ST70 and Williamson topologies.
I wish I had listened to him and bought his WE 300Bs for $135 each. One day he mentioned that his supplier (they had been a spares inventory for some commercial user) had shipped all his remaining stock "overseas" to one buyer and there were no more....
What do you mean when you say the 12au7 mindset? Please enlighten.
Thx Kelly
There is a whole world of tubes beyond the 12AU7, 12AT7, and 12AX7 tubes generally found in consumer gear. When I was looking for some 12AU7 drivers for a Williamson amp, for instance, he told me to forget the 12AU7 and try 5687, 7119, and 7044 tubes. I have never looked back. I eventually abandoned the Williamson topology too, but that's more Joe Roberts' influence...
That is kind of what I thought was being implied. I second that feeling as someone that rarely gets in line to scoop up the latest social/consumer pop crap trends. My equipment uses 5687's in the preamp and 6n1p's in the amp. However I also just shelled out $50.00 to get a nos gb5687. As most posters know, 12au7's can be had for a fraction of that and there still is current production. Unfortunately I'm not aware of any production for the 5687/7199/7119 family. It's not inconceivable that in few years, only 12**7's will be available. So I guess you can't really fault someone that wants to be able to rely on components the will be available down the road. Sorry to get off track a bit. Just curious.

ECC99 is an equivalent to a 7119, but with a 12A_7 type basing. The Russian 6N6P is also equivalent but with a 6DJ8/6CG7 type basing and can be had for cheap on eBay.
That's good information. That's what this forum is about.
Thx KElly
