Brings back memories.
I remember an assignment: In order to be qualified as a tape op you had to make some 20 or so splice edits to a song of your choice. If I recall correctly, you had to cut down a 3 minute song to about half that time.
If the instructor was able to "hear" more than 3 of them, you'd have to do it all over again.
But back then one had to do a complete alignment of a 24 track, in less than 40 minutes. Those were different times.
Thanks for posting.

And I'm not giving away my secrets!
If your instructor couldn't hear 3 out of 20 student splices, he wasn't a very good instructor.
:)
Oh, my instructor was a fierce woman and she heard 'em alright.
Thing was, you better had previous splicing experience or you'd not be in the contest. 2 Inch tape was being cut back then also and more often than people think. Now mess that up....
How's your 44 coming along? Enjoy, it's a good machine.

I found a local guy who can fix it. :)
Now I just gotta come up with the $400 it's going to take. :(
Fortunately, my Revox A77 is tip-top. :)
