Overwhelming consensus is Sam is the man! AA, Steve Hoffman forum, Tape Heads all agree. I called him today to discuss the deck and will ship to him during the week.
Thanks all !

That's great to know. I get to Chicago twice a year, and will have to go check him out.
:)
Sam has had my Pioneer gear for nearly a year and its still not fixed. Sam says "im tired of emails and phone calls people will have to take their stuff to New Jersey to get it fixed" I told Sam to stop working on it and tell me when I can pick up my gear. He refuses to tell me when i can pick it up. I have the emails to prove it.Sam seems overwhelmed. I thought they would be ready after my 3 Cancer procedures at the VA hospital. Nope...cancer was cured and still no gear.

"I have no excuse other than to say the 707 had shipping damage I did not see before and the motor was cocked in the mounting taking a good amount of time to try and correct. I have stopped taking in any more units so as not to let this long time frame go on and I just have to work what is here. People may not now have a place to take their units. I am sorry you have had a bad experience." This is what Sam posted on Thumbtack....unit was never shipped...I drove to Sams house in my car and delivered them. Just like im driving there to pick them up. Notice no mention of the 909....again....Im sorry " people may not now have a place to take their units" Really??? Sam is not the only capable tech out there....even if he thinks he is.
"Im sorry you had a bad experience"....no mention of not being paid because that isnt the issue and never was...I always have expected to pay for services rendered if services were performed...bottom line....I took gear to Sam...Sam has gear for nearly a year....gear is not repaired...I want my gear back. Yes, its really that simple.
Heres the update after picking up my gear from Sam. I took the RT-707 to Sam to repair because it wasnt recording with both channels. Playback was fine with both channels when Sam received gear. Still doesnot record with both channels. On the bright side, directional lamps for play in both directions were replaced. The RT-909....I requested Sam replace the microswitches that are mounted with the tape guides. This was not done. Nothing was done on the RT-909. I asked Sam what I owed for what he did do. Sam replied "nothing, the job wasnt finished". I asked Sam a second time...same reply. Gear was placed in car I came home. In nearly a years time, two directional indicator lights replaced. My health is such now I can do my own repairs. THATS THAT.

Too bad you had to sign in here to tell your story.
Let's review:
You took your gear to Sam.
He didn't do what you wanted to have done.
You picked up your gear.
He didn't charge you anything.
Have I got that right?
I took my gear to Sam. In a nearly a years time Sam replaced two directional lights. Not at my request. Requested repairs were not attempted nor compleated. Gear was picked up. Yes it is a shame I had to log on here to tell my story.
"It would be great to hear Sam's side of Evoraat's story. I suppose it's just as possible that evoraat has decided not to pay for repairs/charges due, as it is that Sam is being difficult." Inmate 51-these are your words not mine...I never said Sam was the difficult one.I said "i took gear to Sam. Sam didnt repair gear. I want my gear back." Anything is possible...but nonpayment isnt the issue....failure to repair gear in a timely manner is the issue. Do a google search for Sam at Skywave (his company's name)....you can find his contact information...call him and ask him.

Inmate 51....Sam says repairs were made to the 707...if the repairs made are what I took the unit to Sam for I expect to pay for work performed. If he performed work that wasnt authorised I dont expect to pay for that. Again I never told Sam I wouldnt pay for what was properly repaired. I had repeatedly asked for information and was repeatedly ignored. By the way...no work was even attempted on the 909 until yesterday and I told him to stop I just wanted my gear back. The bottom line is I took gear to a tech...after nearly 10-12 months little to no work was performed. At this point I just want my gear back. Again I never said I wouldnt pay for authorized repair.
After I pay for and get my gear back I will reveal what work was requested to be performed and what was actually done for each unit. I refuse to believe all techs are wired the same. As I told Sam " If I hadnt been dealing with 3 different procedures at the VA hospital for cancer, I wouldve repaired them myself".
"After I pay for and get my gear back I will reveal what work was requested to be performed and what was actually done for each unit."
Pay for what?
It sees to me the time wasted on back n forth emails wouldve better used to repair equipment. Just my perspective. EvoRaat.
I know its an impositon to ask what repairs were done on the 909...but i need to know to ascertain how much money to bring.
I don't have the paper work for the 909 as it is now up with the units and I don't see the need to provide my diagnostics for free.
You don't have to bring any money and I may even leave the business after I clean out. I have just sent in a application for a job in the
Medical Equipment business. Many many people love my work but it only takes a couple of negative reviews to wreck that. One review I got
was from a person that never had me work on any of his equipment. The RT909 you will approach as if it is a new repair.
I know its an impositon to ask what repairs were done on the 909...but i need to know to ascertain how much money to bring.
I have no problem with an update...I never refused payment to Sam...I asked what repairs were made multiple times and when I could expect to pick up my gear. I asked if the repairs were made that I brought units in for...Sam refused to answer....he said "you can pick up your stuff Tuesday. I was hoping to reach an amicable solution to our problem...Sam refuses to be cooperative....I brought him my gear from Detroit so there was no "damage in shipping" involved. Apparently Sam forgot this fact and im driving tomorrow to pick them up. Sam says he put an application in with a medical concern and with not take anymore units. I am not the bad guy in this situation. I thought Sam was the guy for the job...he seems overwhelmed. Sam said its too bad now there is no one to repair units anymore. Again I have the emails to comfirm these claims.
I have no problem with an update....after 30 some emails back n forth with Sam...I am picking up units tomorrow(tues)...Sam refused to tell me what work was accomplished if any. I never refused payment to Sam n hope we reach an amicable solution. I drove there from Detroit to take the units to him so nothing was "damaged in shipping". I am driving from Detroit to pick them up.At this point as far as I know the units were not repaired for what they were taken to him for. Sam says he put an application in to work for a medical company. Sam said its unfortunate now there is no one to repair units anymore.
Ross, what's your Teac update? Here's a post complaining about Sam, so I'm wondering how your experience went/is going.
It would be great to hear Sam's side of Evoraat's story. I suppose it's just as possible that evoraat has decided not to pay for repairs/charges due, as it is that Sam is being difficult.
"He refuses to tell me when i can pick it up. I have the emails to prove it."
Evoraat, would you mind sharing the pertinent details of those emails?
