Those are nice units. I have one and have gotten a lot of great use out of it. If you have the original WM D6, which has only Dolby B, you could probably get another one cheaper than you could get yours fixed. Nice ones sell for $50 - $100 on eBay, and there are plenty to choose from. If you have the later WM D6C, which adds Dolby C, then you may want to look into getting it fixed. Those seem to be in quite high demand, with nice used ones going for $200-$300 or so. I saw a NOS one that went for close to $600!
I hope this is of some help.

Do you if SONY still services these? I still have the original packaging.
may have a look at yours for you. Perhaps even improve it. Will take some time though (long waiting list).
He appears on the site stereo2go from time to time, it seems.
Is yours the Laser Amorphous (pointy-headed head) or the later ferrite one (rounded head)?
big j.

I'm not sure about the head. It doesn't look perfectly round to me. I think I acquired this unit new in 1982 or thereabouts. It has never been serviced. Don't think I want to deal with international shipping, although Doctor Walkman does appear to be able to walk the walk.
Check out the link below. I'm sure you can get an answer there. There are ways to either chat with them online or call them. This page is for the WM D6C. There is no separate page for the WM D6 that I saw.
