Hi,
In the last few months I have been cleaning some stuff out and giving away various things to AA members.
Several Tape folks helped me a few years ago when I needed to archive a muscian friends old 4 track cassette work, so now I'd like to pay back.Today I am offering Free 2 AKAI GX-280D reel to reel units that were passed to me when a co-workers elderly audiophile father moved.
These things are beautiful....one was used by his father and one in still in the box...original packing and I believe it may be new unused.
Both are mint as far as I can tell. Here is the thing...I don't want to ship them.
They are too heavy (I guess 50lbs each) and would need remarkable packing.
So I am offering them Free to any Audio Asylum member who lives in the NorCal area Sacramento-Chico.
Post reply here and message me via AA if you are interested. If I don't have interest in a couple of weeks, I'll try to sell or otherwise move them other ways, but until then they are free to one of you tape folks.
Moderators, if this post is out of line feel free to let me know or delete.
peace, Robert

Hello kellymon. If you still have these recorders, I am interested. I can drive up from sacramento. Let me know. Thanks!

Hey kellymon,
I just talked with my friend in Sac, and he says he doesn't have a need for them nor interest in them, so, don't wait.
But again, thank you so much for your kind offer!!
Heck, I'd take 'em, but that involves shipping issues and costs. So, continue on.
:)
51,
No worries.
The decks have probably found a local home via other contacts, so everyone may consider the offer closed.
thanks,
Robert
Pity. I acquired about 2 dozen prerecorded 4 tracks I've been dying to listen to. But honestly, I'm unwilling to fork out big money for a machine, since it's a bit of an experiment for me. I guess I'll have to keep combing the thrift stores. Thanks for the offer anyway. It's very kind of you to make such a generous offer. Des
I had to leave a message for my Sac buddy. I'll probably hear back from him late tonight - he's an actual working musician. ;)
51,
I hope he can use them. They are seriously beautiful...I had just about decided to restore the tape input on my modded Dynaco PAS and try to find some tapes...and more room for tapes and a deck....maybe between all the LPs and cassettes and CDs? And turntables and diy amps....
I hope your friend can use it.

Would you be interested if I drove up from Stockton ?
Hey Robert, that is REALLY nice of you!!!
I'm in a way different area (Dallas). But I do know a pro musician in Sac, and I'll tell him about your offer!
Being a musician and a reel-to-reel guy (my first deck was a Roberts [Akai] 1719, and now my mint Revox A77 MkIV is about 35 years old!), I'm very interested in seeing your friend's decks go to a good home!
As the song goes, "Do nothing til you hear from me"!
:)
