  Production started in 1969. Beyond that, you should be able to find the 3M "Soundtalk" bulletins and maybe you can glean some more info on what IVR stands for. (available through AES).

      Thanks to your recordist.com link, I've now blissfully wasted an hour, perusing information about Ampex and Studer machines, as well as tape.
