I would imagine that if you are getting sound from the headphone jack that the rear RCAs should work. Sound from the headphone jack indicates that the head amplifier is working. Clear sound(at least as far is tapes go) would indicate that the head has no alignment problems. A steady playback and the ability to FF and RW indicates that all of the belts are working. It is still possible that even with all of that that there will be no sound from the RCAs, but highly unlikely. The more common failures for those old dinosaurs are usually mechanical in nature.
"Idiocracy" had it all wrong. We'll be there way sooner then 500 years!
