My 5050BII used to work perfectly. Now, after its sat 4 yrs in a closet, I want to sell it...and while it runs at 15ips fine, it won't switch into 7 1/2. The sound of the relay isn't clicking for the speed change like it used to. I've worked the speed change switch to no avail, and I bet it is a dirty (unused too long) contact somewhere....but where? Speed change relay? How would I find it? Thanks!
Why on Earth would anyone ever want to use 7-1/2 ips?
LOL. Just kidding.
It's probably a major repair. I'll take it off your hands for $50. ;)
No deal. But if you help me fix it I'll by ya a beer!
I'd like to help ya, 'cause I like free beer, but I think you've analyzed about as far as I could. My guess is that it's a relay rather than a switch contact. But the 5050 owners here will have a better answer, probably this weekend.
:)

It is actually a known problem with the switch contacts on the BII to do this. I have taken the switches apart and cleaned the contacts but they are very tedious to put back together. I have also had good luck by removing the switch pcb and spraying cleaner inside of the switch for a fix once. This could possibly be done without removing the pcb but will be tight to inject in the right spot.
Caution should be taken when removing the buttons. They are hot glued on and must be removed by prying straight out or the switch shaft may bend and will be a pain getting it back straight and funtioning.
