Hit about 30 yard sales this morning and found a nice Sony TC-730 with a dozen (home-recorded) tapes for $25. I hooked it up in the garage to test and it seems to play with no serious issues. Guy had good taste in music. The tape I grabbed for testing has Beatles, CSN&Y and Jethro Tull. Good thing I asked about old audio gear. The seller told me he had put it out during his yard sale last year, with no interest at all from buyers. So I probably rescued it from a future trip to the dump.
Looks like a nice unit. It's very similar to my Sony TC-530. The major difference seems to be the inclusion of a power amp in the TC-730, whereas the TC-530 does not have one.
Nice going.

"dammit"
Yeah. Now I need to start servicing some of these decks.
I have new belts and service manuals (on PDF) for:
Teac A-4010SL
Sony TC-355
Sony TC-580 My original post erroneously identified this as a "TC-530"
and two cassette decks:
Akai GXC-709D
Marantz 5030B
I'm going to have the local print shop make hard copies of the manuals and then I'll be ready to start refurbishing these decks.
I've got the TC-630 set up out in the garage. It plays OK, but it clearly needs a new belt and a general servicing.

That's a sweet find!!! Reminds me of the Sony TC-765 that found for $50.
