However I tried deleting old bookmark and saving a new one to the front page rather than direct into a particular forum and the problem remains?

  My fault. There are two versions of the front page, one for spiders that get the classic pages and another that maintains the right views. At some point, I must have copied the wrong one to the wrong name. Sorry.
  
  It should be good now or delete and resave the bookmark.
