  ... I also tried my full real name, another email and a different password as well as other different settings. Both tries gave me the password not correct error. Very odd. I'm surprised anyone can register at this point.

I really don't know. Most people have had no problems at all. A few suddenly seem to have them, so it must be something with the new server.

CAPTCHA? Yeah, it's a slick little utility. Spammers have been a horrendous problem, literally thousands of attempts per day. It may have been one of the problems with the old server getting bogged down.

    Nope, there's no requirement on passwords for length. 40 people have registered in the last 2 days and I don't see any errors in the log, so when did you try it?

      You might look into the system's response to the use of periods; but I'm not messing with it anymore.

      ... %22L.D.%22 as a moniker, I assume because the new server does not like periods? ... so I'll have to decide if I want to keep this moniker.
