How many watts/ch does your Rega integrated have. This KEF likes lots of power. I used to power mine with a 200w/ch Phase Linear amp. The sound quality greatly improved with my Classe CAP 151 integrated. I got nice well controlled bass. Although very happy with my 103.2s, I have looked for other speakers, but so far, can't find one with all their qualities. I might have to go tube and start over. For a bookshelf, It's hard to beat. Because of their age and cheesey connectors, you think you need to trade up. Let me know if you find something better for $2000 or less.
Follow Ups:
The Rega has 85 wpc.I have now decided against the Arros because of the many people like yourself who have tried to find speakers to replace the KEFs (for reasonable $$$) but just can't. I can't imagine any significant improvment with the Arro.
I met a guy in Canada who does a modification to the 103s. What he does is by-pass the protection circuit, which is apparently a huge board that is responsible (he says) for the bottlenecking that I am getting on more complicated Jazz and Rock/Electronica. Then he said he adds 3 caps, but I didn't really understand what that does. He also rewires the speaker internally with Cardas wire. And finally he changes the connector to a proper binding post. Unfortunately, I live in Los Angeles, so I am presently trying to find someone who can do this in So Cal.
I'll keep you posted.
