Refund cash in my pocket and these were on special..but distribution for US took a turn and on backorder indefinite till it's sorted out.
Chopped my budget in half 5K and these were on special for 2.5.
Nothing wrong with my Opera Seconda, just time for something different.

Another thought is the audio note E kit with cabinets you can get them for about 3200 and all you have to do is put together and stain.
I don't recall what model I heard at Newport, but do remember how the Audio Note speakers played my 1955 mono copy of Julie Londons "Cry me a River"
Whichever model it was, that sultry, breathy voice was in the room.
Building one of those kits no doubt is much more satisfying than just listening, but at this level of expense $, I just want to pick something out and hook them up.
A nice stained set certainly would look nicer than the Black Heco with the racing stripe. It's the narrower depth and legs on the Heco that make it stand out from all the other wide baffle, boxes. If the Heco was built with a nice veneer, instead of that stripe, it would be a serious looker- and WOULDNT be offered for $2500!
From the discription this is a redo of the old style 10" woofer two way system. Don't get me wrong they were really nice.
It's basically this speaker.
And FYI, if you go this route you are probably better off with the kit version since it's been around for about 60 years. And people are STILL using it.
The A25 and clones are a low efficiency design.
The Heco and others mentioned in this thread are high efficiency designs.
Also, in the A25 and clones, there's no horn loading on the tweeter. So there will be a massive step function in the off-axis response because the woofer is beaming at the crossover point while the tweeter's radiation pattern is hemispherical at the crossover point. You will hear this step function at the listening position.
The Heco Direkt (and its brethren) have horn loaded tweeters so the dispersion remains narrow from the midrange through the treble.
I'm not in a rush, so I just have my sight wide open.
Models I REALLY want all seem to be over my 5K max.
Sure, there are probably ENDLESS choices under my max, but part of my criteria, in addition to claimed specs is aesthetics. I don't know about the specs of that DIY suggestion, but it isn't similar in appearance. Plenty of " box" options out there for sure.
My present speakers are a "poor mans" Sonus Faber, I like furniture quality builds/ nice veneer. The Heco just had a different look that caught my attention.
Finding a used, significantly marked down top dog is also being considered.
The bug, always gets me when I have no bills and CASH.
You should just buy these and pocket the 2K. They will outperform most anything you could buy for 10K (maybe more) and under.

Wow!
They probably do sound amazing. A little too different looking for my tastes.
Looks like something you have in a room full of turn of the century furniture. A nice Victrola spinning 78's?
I have M/L stats (used or discontinued new) on the list. I have seen listings within my budget.
ML Stats won't even be in the same zip code sonically. But good luck with your search.

"ML Stats won't even be in the same zip code sonically."
wow, Ive heard some ML stats systems that amazed just as much as conventional speakers.
Does that mean you're just not into stats?
I'm looking across the board, and not stuck on any particular design technology.
I've never owned stats, but heard my share of them. I have owned maggies though. It's not that I don't care for stats, they have their strengths and weaknesses pretty much like all designs. However, I am now a big fan of OB (open baffle) speakers because of what they bring to the table, including an open, effortless sound that completely eliminates any boxy coloration, much like stats and planars. But with more dynamics and deeper, better defined bass (in the instance of the Super V at least).

Consider having a DIY built by a cabinet maker. The value for money can be incredible and you get the custom finish you want! I spent roughly $150 once to refinish a couple of speaker boxes with some veneer I bought (beautiful walnut burl) and the end result was spectacular.
I'm about to do the same thing to my Horneshoppe Horns. Losing the plain old oak veneer for something spectacular.
They look like a 500-1K speaker. Surely there is something that makes them special? Nothing in the description to alert one.

Consider the price of other speakers based on the same design concept.
DeVore O/93 goes for $8400
DeVore O/96 is $12k
Trenner & Friedl Pharoah is $13k.
I don't know the price of the T&F Ra, but it is up there too
Heco Direkt seems like a relative bargain to me.
Hi Dave - the RA is over $25,000.
These speakers would be a great comparison to the Audio Note E/LX which I just sold in December and retailed for $5800. Though it is probably more comparable to the AN E/D with paper woofer that lists for just $3,985 US.
I would absolutely love to see someone pit this Heco up against the E/D.
Personally - I REALLY want to here these speakers because I really love affordable easy to drive speakers and this Heco Direkt was reviewed off of an Audio Note OTO (one of the best and affordable SE amplifiers on the market for the last 25+ years).
I would like to see a lot more of these wide baffle higher sensitive speakers out there at affordable price points than slim line towers with a bunch of woofers covering the same frequency with some ringy dingy metal tweeter pinging things at me.
AN E/D gives you the old school wooden box look and these HECOs have a modern look but similar Snell approach. I hope I can find a pair to try out down the line. Editor's choice in Hi-Fi Choice isn't too bad and Hi-fi Critic gave them a best buy. I'm okay with the racing stripe too.
RGA,
I was ready to track my delivery of these interesting speakers.
Based on claimed specs, intro price along with a return policy, make them a home run.
Distributor apparently has vanished and has left the vendor with paid orders and no product.
If situation gets straightened out, I still may grab a pair. Getting used to the 67 Camaro rally stripes should be easy if they sound great. I think they will sound amazing
I guess my apprehension was that they are an unknown, at least to me. Not that that is an indication that they aren't good. It's just that I'm more familiar with the others you mention.
And to an earlier point, yes most high end speakers are overpriced to a certain extent. But as with all things, it's whatever the market will bear. I just usually chose to wait for them to hit the used market at 40% of retail before I make a move.

Some have noted lots of these already on the used market, here and there. Might be worth a look - and a think. I'm sure they're nice 'at first blush'.

"... only a very few individuals understand as yet that personal salvation is a contradiction in terms."
They were initially being offered with try before you buy, so I had just the shipping return charges to loose.
Aren't just about all speakers overpriced based on looks?
The specs show them above average for their cost. Frequency and sensitivity above the asking price. also, the write ups are positive. The plain looks caught my attention, although the racing stripe I could do without.
Oh well, I have my 5k to shop around. I have a couple including used on the list.
Just a thought. If of interest you can check out the exhibitor list to see if anything is of interest to you. Maybe even contact the mfgs to arrange for a specific time to stop in.
I'm not trying to poke holes in your purchase. I just didn't see or read anything that would make me want to drop 2.5K, much less 5K, on these dimunutive two way speakers.

Orangutan O/96 DeVORE FIDELITY
Same basic 10" two way , even with same tweeter horn loading
Price $12,000
But you well know the insanity that often dictates pricing in this hobby of late.
I've heard and like the O/96. But the price doesn't begin to equate or even come close to working.....for me anyway. Same for the O/93.
The Heco may have borrowed some design ideas, certainly not that veneer!
I won't hold my breath and wait for a listing at my budget.
Based on specs and the short lived intro price, it's possibly an "under the radar" "sleeper"
buy. The racing stripe I could do without, but tolerable-if they sound great.
Since I'm not stuck on any specific design, I will just keep my eyes open for interesting deals.
