Is the subwoofer turned on? Is the subwoofer volume set high enough? Is he selecting the correct input in the GUI menu? Is the correct speaker output selected?
Manual P.35:
*If you connect a subwoofer with an auto standby function, turn off this function when watching movies. If the auto standby function is turned on, it switches to standby mode automatically based on the level of the input signal to the subwoofer, and the sound may not be output.
Manual P.85 & P.155:
*Some speakers or the subwoofer may not output sound, depending on the sound field setting.
Subwoofer Troubleshooting Manual P.198:
*Check that the subwoofer is connected correctly and securely.
*Make sure you have turned on your subwoofer.
*Depending on the selected sound field, sound may not be available from the subwoofer.
*Depending on the source, there may be no sound from the subwoofer when all speakers are set to [Large] and [Neo:6 Cinema] or [Neo:6 Music] is selected.
Manual P.220:
Auto Format Direct (A.F.D.)/2-channel sound mode
2-channel sound mode:You can switch the output sound to 2-channel sound regardless of the recording formats of the software you are using, the playback device connected, or the sound field settings of the receiver.
2ch Stereo (2CH ST.):
The receiver outputs the sound from the front left/right speakers only. There is no sound from the subwoofer.
Standard 2-channel stereo sources completely bypass the sound field processing and multi-channel surround formats are downmixed to 2-channels.
Follow Ups:
The standby light is lit. I turned it off and on a couple of time to be sure.During the calibration a signal is sent to the subwoofer (sub woofer icon is lit on screen) but no sound. It was sending sound a couple of days ago.

Try connecting it to the normal preamp outputs instead of the subwoofer outputs and see if that makes a difference.
Will the receiver send the low frequency signal through any other outputs?
Try sending the subwoofer the full frequency audio signal. If the sub has its own low pass filter, it might not trigger on a low pass signal from your receiver. It might need the full frequency signal to turn on. Use some Y-adapters and feed your sub the same audio signal you feed your main speakers. Just a thought!
