I came across a pair of Altec Lansing model 7 Series 2 for $30 I was wondering if I should get them. I assume I should I'm posting a picture I was wondering if anybody knew what original drivers were in these speakers and if these drivers look original it's hard to find information on these speakerspeakers. I already have JBL L50,4311b,L1 and l20t. I was told by one Forum that that was their answer to the L100.. I was just wondering if this is true and if anybody has any information please let me know.

They didn't sound anywhere near as good as the JBL L100/4311 when new.
The foam edges have long, long ago since disintegrated.
You have a monkey coffin (dog, cat, etc).
A 4311 is a much better loudspeaker, and the drivers won't rot away.
Bart Locanthi, it was considered an updated JBL L-100 but, arguably, did not sound as good.To call The Altec 7 the answer to the L-100 is revisionist history.

I had a pair of HPM 900's and were a really nice sounding speaker but that crazy material they used on the woofer that if it was damaged that was it for that speaker! I hear the HPM 150's are really nice but I have never heard a pair.
The Altec Model 9 series II was away better speaker than the Model 7's.
I don't know the Model Seven, although I was amused to see a Canuck Audio Mart seller call them, "California muscle speakers."
This discussion (linked), which identifies Model Seven part numbers, might be helpful to you:
Well I went to buy the Altec Lansing model Seven series 2 today... I ended up getting them and a set of old Polks for $30. Couldn't say no... The highs and Mids sound great the bass is ok.... The old Altec spec sheet said 12" Woofers but these are 10". But they are original drivers... I've read several people claiming the same thing.... Anyone know what's up with the Woofers in these speakers???
:-)!

Yeah the measurements from the edge of the foam surroud is 10" but the actual opening is 12" but the Altec Lansing website states it is a 12 inch woofer does anyone know anythin this? Altec Lansing model Seven series 2.

Agreed, the only exception to this I've noticed are ATC woofers. Their 6 1/2" woofer looked large to me and when I measured it the diameter from outside surround to outside surround was 6 1/2". Can't trust those foreigners?
The Altec Model Seven had one of the most colored sounding midrange of any loudspeaker I had ever heard.
They made some great sounding speakers, this model was not one.
