So it's time to get on the upgrade path and move on from the ASL AV-8's I have been using for 13 years!
A nice shiny Rogue Sphinx is in the near(ish) future, and I think its time to get a bump up in the speaker department as well.
Funds are limited(selling off some amps and stuff may help matters!) so new speakers will be under $1K.
Currently using Kef Coda 8's, am looking at Kef q5's on a certain site,
but any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Music can range from speed punk to bluegrass to Barber to who knows where.
95% on vinyl, VPI traveler gets lots of use.
Thoughts, folks?
Follow Ups:
Well after much searching, missing out on Vandersteens and others on various sites. I sprung for a new pair of Tekton Lore Reference today!
Have to get working on selling some stuff to pay for the Sphinx now.
Thanks for all the suggestions folks!
I think that you made the right decision going for the Lore Reference from Tekton Design. You'll love them. Please post with your findings after you've listened for a while.
I chose the Tekton M-Lore (a smaller version of the Lore) after discussing it with Eric Alexander. He recommended going for the smaller speaker because of my smallish listening room, and I thank him for that! Eric could have sold me on his larger (and more costly) offerings, but his honesty was a breath of fresh air that can be rare in this industry.
BTW - I, too, am using Rogue power. Mine is the Cronus Magnum integrated.
Teton Design Lore's or the smaller M-Lore's depending on room size.
Note: These ain't your fathers polite stand-mounted monitors, if you know what I mean :-)
i might try looking at the new ELAC speakers designed by andrew jones. the value quotient is high and that results form superlative design integration.
you can get a lot more speaker with the ELACs than most, and even the subwoofer is quite innovative althouugh i have yet to hear one.
as an alternative high value sub, the RHYTHMIK subs shold be in high consideration.

Peachtree is blowing out the D5 for $599 (was $999).
Those are seriously good speakers, I'm listening to the smaller D4 in my office.
You can always find LS-50's on Agon for a grand - they work great with the Sphinx.

I'd have Elac's on my list were I looking under $1K.
Tubes, Bluegrass, vinyl, under a grand for a big room with no subwoofer. You pretty much described these.
I haven't heard any Tekton speakers, but if I were going to buy a $1k-ish pair of speakers right now, these would be a serious consideration for home trial.
Sonus Faber.
New or used? Standmount or floorstander? Room size?
Either/or, no preference, room is living room/dining room with the required furniture, 12' x 22', speakers firing down long axis. Subwoofer not an option.
Just looking for ideas/thoughts
This Vandersteen would be a great match with the Rogue. There is a mint used pair listed here for $650.
See the link
Thanks, but I'm not looking for speakers!
