Recently visited younger daughter and family for a few days. Daughter surprised me by setting up a new Elac B5 and a tiny chinese amp and playing Pandora when I arrived. I gave her $300 and settled to listen. I had impressions of the B6 heard at my friend's place fresh in memory. The sound of the B5 was leaner and distant and a small window presentation. I did not like the looks and the size of the amp. Could not play loud due to proximity to other apartments. To me the 5 sounded cleaner than the 6.
While leaving the daughter and the grandson I suddenly decided to gift the system to them with an advice to get a better amp and speaker cables. On an impulse the daughter gifted me with her Bose cordless bluetooth speaker, the newer model which is very heavy. Now back at home I have placed the Bose on the Crockery stand and am lifting it up and looking at it from various angles again and again. I cannot bring
myself to play it.

Bill, IIRC you didn't like your (gifted) B&W speakers either ;-)
My! I admire your amazing memory. I still dont like the B&W and I cant believe the great review that AS has given to the new version. It is a pathetic speaker. I dont know if I would like the gifted Bose. I did not like the B5 too much because of the little Chinese amp. I did not like the B6 too much either. I must admit I have really liked only two speakers in the recent past viz Joseph Audio 7 and Harbeth 7. All others are either dull or too bright or too distant.
Cheers
Bill
Right tool for the application. Go ahead it won't bite and most won't think less of you.
