Overall, a very positive review. If you can handle the look of those red surrounds you're good to go.
Follow Ups:
I guess if some super high end speaker had them it would be acceptable, and thankfully I wouldn't be able to afford them so I wouldn't have to worry about it! However, I'm a slave to good sound and I've never heard these speakers...But these... they are affordable! I have to go listen to a pair!
But those red surrounds and the horn up top assures they will forever be only a garage or man-cave or basement speaker.
Maybe if I see something different in person I will have a change of heart or if i'm lucky I will hate the way they sound.

Lots of plants all around might help too.
Our best buy CV them as well as the Klipsch speakers. In all honesty I was surprised at the cheapness in material construction. What looked like a bigger version of a RadioShack desk speaker.
But if you want cheap you're going to have to cut a corner some where. A plastic horn lens isn't the worst place to do it.
Maybe they can be modified but instead of sound, to not look like they belong in a pot dealer's house. The talkative pot dealer that wants to explain why CV is a great value. But all you want to do is get your dime bag and go home.
I am going to make a trip to BB to audition them. Maybe a pair will show up on CL for cheap and I can find out for myself. I certainly have more than enough amplifier power. Or maybe not. I see they are often paired with CV's own 1800! Watt amp! I can only assume (haven't checked) that its 1800 watts like most of those chrome 500 watt Coby systems... Measured in a special way to appeal to teenagers and those with the mentality of teenagers. An attribute I cannot entirely dispute that I lack. :)
