MannyE- Quick question- as I am in the midst of doing the same with a pair of ProAc Response 3s - did you need to clamp the new foam to the cone during the curing of the adhesive?

I've refoamed hundreds of cones. Mostly never needed any solvent
on the cone side, if I do it's alcohol only, it'll soften the foam
The rotted foam pretty much easily crumbles off just scraping it
with a knive edge at 90 degree angle. Sometimes it'll peel off.
Clamping new foam (on the outer frame side) is a no-no, it tends to pull the foam out alignment and cause coil rubbing. I never use clamps.
No clamping was needed. The glue was an almost instant bond with the cone. I wasn't ready for that as the Simply Speakers glue often has a 60 to 90 second work time before it gets too tacky to move the surround a bit.
In the case of the particular materials involved in the Thiel woofer, the glue grabbed hold almost immediately and if you look at the two completed woofers, the one on the right shows some evidence of the panic moment. However, once I knew that, the install on the second one was a snap. And the cleanest surround I have ever done. So there was no need to clamp at all.
I don't usually need to clamp anyway since even with regular paper cones this glue sets in just a few minutes. I have cut out some circles to use as clamps but really all you need to do is keep pushing down in a "pat pat pat" motion as if you were that kid playing duck, duck, goose that never said goose. (You know that kid. He'a a good kid, but he's going to that special school next year) until the little waves start staying down against the cone. No more than 5 minutes.
