If Madisound is talking a complete re-cone and none of the foam surround places have a good solution what you are thinking is worth a try. You have little to lose as you can go for the re-cone later if the silk repair in not satisfactory. I would probably use RTV as the adhesive since it is flexible and the repair is in the part where flexible is important.

There is no worry about fouling a cat or oxygen sensor but if this stuff matches the color of the cone it may be worth seeking out over the plain old bathtub caulk.
