andrew makes it clear that there have to be compromises at these prices. i have heard the b5 with bel canto 100wpc amp driving them and was mightily impressed as were most that heard them at THE Show Newport 2015.
there simply aren't any other speakers in that price range that can match their performance.
for about $5k, one might try the Volent monitors (see review by RH in link below). they are quite impressive on my friend's system driven with prima luna tubes.

That room needs help, tile floors and mostly brick walls.

My friend is very proud of his marble look alike floor so a carpet will not cover it. Chances of a false ceiling below the concrete roof slab is also unlikely. More books are being bought so more bookshelves. With all that hardness he still likes his Elac a lot. He says I should be locked up in some asylum for my statements that the cheapest speaker I would buy is a Harbeth Compact 7.
