This is interesting as I've not heard of it before.
I've commented here a few times I owned Duntech speakers for 19 years. I'm in So. Cal. about a mile from the ocean but I had no problems at all.
Other than suggestions here, if you're not confident in your own repair skills then I'd find a woodworker to do the work. They should be worth it and even at $1K for repair that is one heck of a speaker for that money.

I'm close to pulling the trigger, but I'm not sure they will be a good fit with my room. Do you have experience with the Vs?
David, the only time I auditioned the SC-V was in John's room at the CES. Understandably he always had a very large room since he displayed several models. That was long ago enough that I can't offer any specifics.
But remember that John himself said the real difference among his models was the larger ones extending deeper and able to play louder. Are those traits important to you?
My room is similar in size to yours, 20 x 17 x 11. Anything larger than the Princess/SC-IV(a) would not have worked there, but mainly because of the layout forces an offset in positioning, rather than centering. Unfortunately you won't be sure without trying but I suspect the V might overload the bass and not have sufficient room to breath.

I may not have been clear in attempting to quote John. I believe his point was that all his designs sound very similar through most of their frequency range. The difference being the amount of bass extension and impact as they became larger.

Duntech bass is low Q andhas less room overload problems than most speakers that are much less well damped in the bass.
Those Dunlavys sound best far away from room boundaries.
