Hi
Looking at getting a new sub. I have it down to two. One is the Paradigm Prestige 2000Sw and the other the Velodyne DD+15. It will replace a 13 year old DD15. My room is about 26' by 12' and a half. My equipment is Anthem D2v3D processor. B&W Nautilus speakers and Parasound A51 and A21 amps. 50/50 for music and movies.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Rob

Hi
Thinking about the DB1. Does anyone have input on the B&W DB1 or how it compares to the DD15+ or prestige 2000SW?
Thanks,
Rob
I can understand your logic behind building your system with components from the same manufacture. Even though you may be using your system as primarily a Home Theater, proper Extra Low Frequency (ELF) integration can add a great deal to your HT experience and a night and day difference to your music.
The Prestige doesn't have a remote control and if you're not using the one that came with your DD15 then read no further.
Velodyne smartly accommodates the different demands of HT and music with six remote controlled user customizable EQ presets. The Velodyne DDplus systems offers some of the most detailed auto and manual ELF adjustments on the market today, slightly more detailed than your current, and still relevant, DD15 and probably far more than any HT processors auto room correction for ELF.
You may recall the Velodyne Digital Drive Series DD-1812 Signature, if not do a search. In a respect you are half way there with a discreet 15-10, 15-12, or 15-15 system. I suggest you consider a DDpluse 10 and combine both units to cover different bands of the ELF frequency at different locations in your room. Adding a second sub to your room can reduce room nodes and it simply sounds tighter. The DDpluse software appears to be much more detailed than the Paradigm Perfect Bass Kit (PBK). This would most likely be a detailed manual setup of both units as well as the six presets. If you're purchasing from a dealer get them to do it.
My Paradigm experience began with affordable Studio 100s Versions one and two, and finally Signature S8s. An offer fell in my lap for a pair of Avalon Acoustics Eidolons. Within two minutes I understood the difference between listening to speakers and listening to music. You already have a class A rated subwoofer by the company that invented low distortion servo controlled excursion. The Plus has even lower distortion.
Have fun with it.
Thanks for all the posts!
M-Db you got me thinking. Flat out what would give me more detail with my system?
Thanks again,
Rob
Since I'm guessing yours is an HT system I don't have much to offer. My HT is simply a Pioneer Elite receiver powering 7.1 Triangle Comets, a Velodyne DD-10 plus, and completely independent of my two channel system.
Unlike two channel analog media HT media production techniques have a way of losing sight of audio detail, after all its just TV. Even so, I've found using identical speakers and locating them equal distance and height from the listening position uses much less, in my case no room correction (except for the Velodyne). I've found the results very noticeable especially with the few classical SACDs that I own.
You might want to email Velodyne and discuss incorporating a DD Plus with your current DD. In particular slaving the older unit with the Plus EQing.
Paradigm uses a pretty mediocre plate amp.
So did Genesis Technologies. Their 900 servo subwoofer was something like $2500. DARE you to find one that works today.
Have one sitting in my shop, with a fried amp, with a perfect (metal) remote, and a spare driver. It'll probably sit there collecting dust until I sell the place. :)
Anyway - I wouldn't equate cost or apparent quality with having a "plate amp" versus a box/outboard amp.
Can't comment on Velodyne, but every time I head anything made by Paradigm I am impressed.
Thanks bullethead,
Im close to getting the Paradigm! Is there anyone who has this sub with the Anthem processor(D2v 3D) and/or B&W N.speakers and Parasound Amps (A21 and A51)? And please give some info on how it performs?
Thanks
Rob
