I originally bought this speaker for a bedroom system but all the positive reviews had me intrigued. So I have them in my main system (their going to stay there by the way) The equipment used was a Yamaha A-S701 int. amp, Musical Fidelity Roundtable with a Shure M97xe or Denon DL-110 carts. Yamaha CD player and Yamaha FM tuner.
I received these thu. while I was at home for lunch. I quickly hooked them up and ran the FM tuner while I went back to work. When I got home a few hours later I put on the Bad Plus "Give" CD. Anyone not familiar with this CD it has a lot of percussion and bass. I cranked it to stretch the woofer surrounds. Then I listened to FM the rest of the night. I left the system on through the night and the next day till I got home from work.
I listen to mostly vinyl so I was anxious to here what these little gems could do with vinyl. LP's I listened to, Shelby Lynn. "Just A little Lovin", Ray brown-L Almeda "Moonlight Serenade, Gene Ammons "Nice And Cool", Jacintha Is Her Name, Bill Evans, "Sunday At The Village Vanguard" , Booker T. And The MG's, "Green Onions" and many more.
I would Characterize the sound of these speakers like I describe the sound of the Denon DL-103R. A little lacking at the frequency extremes but gives rich tonal character. It puts some meat on the bones of the music, very organic and right sounding which to me is more important than a finely detailed speaker which my Monitor Audio Silver 2's sound like. This may sound crazy but I am keeping the B-5's and selling the MA Silver 2's. The B-5's are that good.....

It's funny you mention frequency extremes, because that's where I think my F5s don't quite match my former DefTech Mythos STS's, but like your B5s, my F5s do such a nice job in the mids, and a great job of imaging and bringing the music to life, that I'm willing to deal with a little less sparkle and "detail" in the highs and thunder in the lows. It would be nice to get everything, but for the price the Debut series goes for, it's REALLY tough to argue.
Sounds good guys.Im putting money away for the f 5's.To finish a living room system apart from dedicated system in my other stereo room. They will replace my little JBL's Loft 40's, which still fill living room with really decent sound.
