$800-1000 mid-priced? Ah, if that was only true!
Seriously, as most others commented, your choices are so different it seems impossible to make a recommendation.

What are mid-priced speakers, then?
Just to let everyone know, I bought the Heresy III's. A place I know had the cherry wood finish and was selling as an "open box" item. They were a great deal.
Although they sound wonderful I feel like I would always regret the nominal sensitivity of the 683's. Maybe some day I can get them for another room.
Thanks all.
Well, I don't believe there is any actual definition for mid-priced speakers. But FYI just have a look at the recommendations in either Stereophile or The Absolute Sound. When prices can reach $100K or more I doubt many consider $1,000 or less to be mid-priced.
But don't take that as a criticism, just a point of relevancy.
And BTW, congrats on buying the Heresys. I remember once looking at a Klipsch discussion site and many Heresy owners raved about the sonic match with the older Harman Kardon HK430 receiver. Reasonable examples can still be found.
Enjoy!
