The Reference 107/2 mid/HF assemblies were replaced with LS50s, several discs were played, and the 107/2s restored without consequence. The sound of the kluge, as PAR would describe it, was quite good -- why he would suggest the crossover of the LS50s might need adjustment is beyond me, given a speaker can only output the frequency range it receives.
Last evening, I played the "Legends of Jazz" music BD on a secondary setup comprised on Oppo BDP-105 balanced to a Parasound A21 amp driving a pair of LS50s that are supplemented below 80 Hz by a Velodyne HGS-10 and SMS-1 bass manager. I used stereo PCM. The sound was superb. My previous experience with this BD has been DTS-HD MA using the main setup, great jazz in very impressive sound. As an SACD player, I rank the Oppo 105 behind my Sony XA5400ES and well behind my Ayre C-5xeMP, so I conclude that either the Oppo is a better BD player than SACD player, BD is superior to SACD, or both.
I concluded from the experiment that if I want Uni-Q in my main setup, I ought to buy a Blade or Blade II, and that both my main and secondary setups are capable superb sound given superb input, so the Blade money will remain in the trust.

In my original posting on this subject I said " If there is any success it will be entirely due to serendipity or your subjective preference for whatever." In regard to your first experiment in para. 1 above I suggest that the latter is the case. However if you liked it, great. We are all free to like anything.BTW, I didn't say that the crossover for the LS50 would need adjustment. I said that the crossover of the KUBE is unsuitable to drive the mid/bass unit of the LS50s and that you would need to bypass the LS50's crossover by connecting the KUBE directly to the drive unit(s), though that would still be incorrect. Rudimentary audio engineering. I also said that if you connected the KUBE to the input terminals of the LS50 then you will have the KUBE's crossover driving the LS50's crossover. Also rudimentary audio engineering or, rather, basic logic.
And, no, a loudspeaker will not output the frequency range it receives if that range is then put through further equalisation - as in your case if the LS50s' crossovers were still active and you used the KUBE. Furthermore frequency range is not the only parameter that a typical crossover addresses (which is germane to my comments) but I will leave that to you to read up on if you are interested.

PAR, I assume you have some training in circuit design and perhaps signal analysis. I ask you to treat this as an intellectual exercise. To anthropomorphize, think of the LS50 as a black box that neither knows nor cares what the KUBE is doing. It only sees the signal presented to its inputs, shaped though it might be by external events. Were the external event a bass manager, the LS50 might see a high-pass signal rolled off at some rate below a crossover; were the event some sort of equalizer, the LS50 might see a signal contoured in some way. In either case, the LS50 accepts the signal it is provided and does not interact with the sender of the signal. That is, it is a one way street from sender, to receiver. Thus, predicting an LS50 should not be used with a KUBE seems unwarranted, as the existence proof revealed.

I don't think that "anthropomorphise" is the correct word you were reaching for but I think that I understand your intention. Incidentally as I am British I use British English spelling hence the change of the "z" to "s" and the reason for my spelling of other words below.
Firstly it is necessary to understand what one is trying to do . Generally we are trying to achieve a system that has a linear response to changes in the frequency and amplitude of the source. The source being the programme material. In regard to loudspeakers this can only occur if the changes (as expressed by changes in the voltage/current of the signal) produce a proportional change in the mechanical behaviour of the speaker . If the signal is "contoured" the result will no longer be proportional to changes in the programme material and the system will no longer be linear. If the response is not linear then it will not have fidelity to the programme material and will not meet the objective intended.
However, in reality, practical loudspeaker drive units are not linear and will not produce a proportional response to changes in the signal they receive due to inherent mechanical imperfections. To overcome these imperfections drive units are chosen that are reasonably linear across some part of the required audio bandwidth ad are used in combination to cover the total bandwidth required. It then becomes necessary to curtail the response of each drive unit which occurs outside of the bandwidth selected for them to handle. It is also necessary to equalise the sensitivity of each drive unit in the system when compared to its companions. This is achieved electrically by use of a crossover. The output of the crossover is designed to restore response linearity to a given set of drive units and is unique to them. If applied to another set of drive units then a non-linear response will be the result unless the other set of drive units is identical to the first. This is why you cannot use a KUBE designed to provide correction for the drivers in a KEF Ref 107/2 with any other loudspeaker.
You may, however, subjectively prefer the non-linear response thus created and that is your prerogative.
Anthropomorphize in the sense an inert black box couldn't know or care by definition.
I should have noted that the result of external and internal contouring can result in overlap. Some in the US claim to adjust the sound of their setups by tube or cable selection, usually to achieve their distortion of choice, e.g., more warmth less analytical.
I might have noted that 50 years ago my doctoral and post doctoral work was in binaural processing, and before that I built a number of not very good speaker systems using commercially available components -- the AR3a ended that. It turned out I was better at selling visions than at research, so I when retired it was as director of a research center.
